Hill Country Happenings

A Texas Hill Country Blog

Things To Do Nearby

Located on the scenic Devil’s Backbone Highway between Canyon Lake and San Marcos, we are near some of the Hill Country’s best-loved hot spots.

Nature & Outdoors

From tubin’ the Guadalupe, fishing or boating Canyon Lake or jumping in the crystal clear Blue Hole, there are four rivers, a lake and a creek with three swimming holes within 30 minutes. You’ll also find hiking and biking trails, state and county parks, and nature preserves wherever you look. There are miles of hiking trails at Canyon Peaks Ranch, and we provide a trail map. There are several beautiful scenic drives (including the drive back and forth from our cottages.) The springtime is perfect for viewing bluebonnets and other wildflowers.

Music & Nightlife

Gruene Hall has music every day of the year and is always a fun time! White Water on the Guadalupe has a full line up of outdoor concerts including Willie Nelson, Dwight Yokum, John Fogerty, Randy Rogers and many other bands. There are several other music venues in New Braunfels and San Marcos. There are several bars along the water in Canyon Lake and Wimberley. We are right down the road from one of the most famous old dive bars in Texas – The Devil’s Backbone Tavern.

Restaurants, Wineries & Breweries

Foodies are in luck in this area of the hill country – we have great BBQ, Italian, Mexican and much more. Grab a cheap but delicious burger or fish taco at one of the many food trucks in Wimberley, dine on locally sourced produce and hill country wine at The Leaning Pear, or enjoy a romantic date night at Myron’s Steakhouse in New Braunfels . We have a list of our favorites to share with you. You will also find several wineries and craft breweries in the area – just ask!

Art & Culture

This area of the Hill Country is has tons of amazing art, music, and theater – Wimberley Glassworks has glass blowing demonstrations, Emily Ann Theater in Wimberley has the famous “Shakespeare Under The Stars” each summer and the Wimberley Players have won several Theater Austin Awards. There are plenty of art galleries in Wimberley, Gruene and New Braunfels as well as the Wimberley Boot Tour, and annual Spring Art Festival.
